DSH Management Solutions - Whats New...
GREAT FALLS,
VA. April 16, 2006- DSH Management Solutions, LLC, one of the leaders in
comprehensive disproportionate share revenue management solutions, announced
today the expansion of its concurrent management toolset that will enable
hospital clients to pro-actively manage the eligibility and entitlement status
of its Medicaid and SSI recipients to ensure that this financially vulnerable
patient population continues to receive the benefits they are entitled to.
The deployment of this additional reporting functionality will provide client
hospitals with periodic notice of changes in the eligibility and entitlement
status for patients that have previously been inpatients at client hospitals.
This will enable hospitals to assist patients who are unaware of this change in
status or of their ability to appeal an adverse decision rendered for
potentially reversible reasons.
In the most recent fiscal year of one of DMS’s hospital clients, the implementation of the MDSS© Concurrent DSH Revenue review sub-system, in conjunction with the periodic update of Title XIX eligibility data, identified 400+ plus hospital accounts, within the 12 month Medicaid billing period, that had been coded as either “Self-Pay” or “Charity Care” that, in fact, had received post-discharge, retroactive eligibility for both categorically and medically needy aid categories. This new functionality not only enabled our client to include these days in their “as-filed” Medicare cost report, for DSH Revenue purposes, but also provided the opportunity to receive directly accretive fee-for-service reimbursement for these accounts in excess of $800,000.

“This new MDSS© system capability directly addresses our corporate mission to
ensure that those individuals who are most in need, and both legally and
ethically entitled to financial and healthcare service benefits, continue to
receive them without any lapse in coverage” stated William Cobb, Executive Vice
President of DMS. “We see this enhanced functionality as a legitimate win-win
proposition for both our hospital clients and the communities they serve.”
DMS focuses on providing a full range of services for public and private acute
care and rehabilitation hospitals to assist them in maximizing their Federal
and State Disproportionate Share (“DSH”) revenue stream. Their proprietary
software program (MDSS©) automates what has largely been a manual process and
addresses not only the retrospective recovery of monies owed by governmental
entities, but provides prospective and concurrent management tools that enable
clients to truly “manage” all components of this critical source of funding
while providing quantifiable community services to those patients most in need
